If you travel with a dog, you don't really use the trunk as storage space. The dog spends the journey there. This works well until the luggage for the trip is added.

The problem is that both need the same space

A box in which the dog can stand, turn around, and lie stretched out makes the difference between a dog that lies down after twenty minutes and one that remains restless for four hours. Most choose the right size when buying. It only becomes difficult when the luggage is added and the box has to slide a bit forward.

And the journeys where the dog comes along are rarely easy ones. A week away, the vacation home, Christmas with the family. Bags for everyone in the car, plus the dog's things: food, bowls, blanket, towels, leash, hiking shoes. That's a full trunk before the box is even in it.

So the trunk performs two tasks at once and does neither well. The dog gets less space than it should, the bags are stacked as they fit, not as you need them, and what no longer fits ends up in the interior.

Give the luggage its own space

The simplest solution is not to store the luggage in the trunk in the first place.

A rear box from IXTAbox is mounted on the trailer hitch and, depending on its size, can hold up to 100 kg and up to 420 liters. Suitcases, boots, dog blanket and food, all wet and muddy things. Loading is at hip height, so you don't have to lift bags over your head as with a roof box.

This means the trunk is back to the dog. The box is there in its full size, nothing is stacked in front of the door, and you can open the tailgate at the rest stop and check on the dog without having to rearrange three bags beforehand.
